    Notes

Helly Hansen Fremont — a 6-inch nubuck boot on a chunky lugged rubber sole with a soft padded collar. The leather is genuinely waterproof (sealed seams — HH Seam-Shield), but still care for the nubuck like suede: dry brush and eraser, suede foam or renovator only when needed, and impregnate before first wear. No smooth-leather cream, wax or white paste.

    Care regimens

    Suede and nubuck

    every ~30 days

Dry care first — brush, eraser, foam only when needed and on a whole panel. Colour renovator only once the shade has genuinely gone.

After each wear: cedar shoe trees for 12–24 h, then air them out

    Everyday

    After each wear and periodically.

    1. Dry suede brush — lift the nap, remove dust.
    2. Suede eraser on spot marks and dark streaks, then brush again.

    What not to do

    • Rub the eraser lightly, then brush. Don't press like sandpaper.

    When dirty

When visibly dirty and brush plus eraser aren't enough.

    1. Dry brush first — lift the nap.
    2. Deeper clean — test a hidden area first, then foam on a whole panel, minimal moisture.
    3. Dry naturally 12–24 h, away from heat. Brush the nap once dry.
    4. Refresh the colourless protector, thin, on the clean, dry shoe.

    What not to do

    • Don't spot-clean suede with water — it leaves rings. Clean a whole panel.
    • Never machine-wash suede.

    Just bought

    Before first wear.

    1. Dry suede brush — lift the nap, remove dust.
    2. Colourless protector, thin coats, on a clean, dry shoe.

    What not to do

    • Never apply smooth-leather cream, wax, balsam or white paste (Super White) — it mats and flattens the nap.

    Restore

    only when needed

Only when the colour has genuinely faded.

    1. Clean and dry first.
    2. A renovator (navy/blue or neutral) after testing, thin, masking the sole.
    3. Once dry, brush the nap and refresh the protector.

    What not to do

    • Off-white suede is easy to ruin with too-white dye — use only neutral/ivory, and only after testing.
